  • Our four‑week beginners courses start the first week of every month (pending registrations) and are designed to give new dancers a foundation in Afro‑Latin social dance. Students build a core repertoire of essential steps, rhythm and timing, and the fundamental principles of lead and follow, with a focus on musical awareness, connection and social dancing interaction.

No partner is required. Each course has places for six leads and six follows. We aim for balance and deliberately rotate partners throughout each class. Salsa and Bachata are social dances, and learning to dance with different partners is an essential part of developing good technique, adaptability and confidence. Where necessary, teachers will step into either role to support balance and learning.

Because this is a structured course, content builds progressively week to week. Students who miss a class may miss important material and are encouraged to book a catch‑up private lesson or attend a drop‑in class for additional practice. Students enrolled in a course are eligible for discounted private lessons (20%), depending on the lesson package booked.

  • Wedding Dances

We offer wedding dance packages designed to help you feel confident, prepared and relaxed on the day — without pressure to perform something overly formal or complicated, unless that’s what you want.

Our approach is flow‑based and practical. Rather than relying on complex choreography, we teach enough foundational movement and connection so that you always have something to fall back on, even if nerves or floor conditions come into play. The aim is to enjoy the moment together.

What our wedding dance packages typically include:

    • 6 to 12 private sessions, scheduled once, twice or three times a week

    • A simple, effective choreography to a section of a song of your choice

    • Music editing, usually trimming the track to 1–2 minutes and using the most effective sections (basic editing provided; complex editing can be quoted further)

    • Guidance on musical interpretation, timing and partner connection

    • Support in choosing a dance style that suits you and your music

We work with styles such as salsa, bachata, kizomba, rumba and boogie, depending on your music selection. If you’re unfamiliar with these styles, don’t worry — we will recommend what works best for you and your song.

    Packages

    • Wedding dance packages start from ± R5 200

    • We generally recommend a minimum of six sessions

    • Twelve‑session packages are recommended for couples wanting more time to feel relaxed and confident

If you would like to book a once‑off private lesson to meet Cat or Ryan first, this can be arranged at the standard couple private lesson rate.

Private lessons and wedding dance preparation sessions are available at limited times by advanced arrangement. To enquire, please:

    • Email a brief to hey@candelajozi.co.za, including your preferred lesson days/times, dance style/s (if known), and any specific goals or deadlines

    • You are also welcome to WhatsApp to Cat on 084 711 4373 (though an email would be helpful and will likely be requested to manage admin effectively!)

  • Private lessons provide tailored instruction, faster progress, and focused technique. With one‑on‑one attention, you build confidence, learn patterns suited to your goals, and become comfortable dancing socially in any setting.
